Afternoon Tea with The Hallé at tender restaurant brings seasonal menus and live performances from Hallé musicians together in Manchester’s Stock Exchange Hotel. Hosted on selected dates throughout the year, the collaboration offers a different way to enjoy two of the city’s great pleasures: food and music.
With a Christmas edition coming up, the partnership also reflects something central to tender’s approach to hospitality: giving people an experience they want to return for.
What is Afternoon Tea with The Hallé?
The seasonal events pair tender’s Afternoon Tea, created under Executive Chef Niall Keating, with live music performed by musicians from The Hallé Orchestra.
They take place in the original trading floor of the former Manchester Stock Exchange, now home to tender restaurant. The Grade II-listed setting gives the afternoon a sense of occasion, while warm service and music create an atmosphere in which guests can settle in and enjoy spending time together.
For guests staying at Stock Exchange Hotel, it’s also an opportunity to experience Manchester’s food and music without leaving the hotel. Booking a stay to coincide with Afternoon Tea with The Hallé adds something special to a weekend in the city.
For those familiar with The Hallé, it is an opportunity to hear its musicians in a more intimate setting. For others, it offers an introduction to live classical music over Afternoon Tea.
A menu that changes with the seasons
Seasonality shapes the experience at tender, from the restaurant menus to the sandwiches, savouries and patisserie served at Afternoon Tea.
The autumn menu has included fruit and white chocolate scones with orange jam and clotted cream, prawn marie-rose brioche rolls and tender’s pork and pistachio sausage roll. Sweet courses have featured black forest mousse, a hazelnut and tonka bean macaron, and a lemon and black sesame tart, alongside the restaurant’s signature mango chocolate coin.
Teas from PMD include “1906”, a blend specially created for Stock Exchange Hotel and named after the year the building opened as a stock exchange.
Each seasonal edition gives the kitchen a chance to create something new, while giving returning guests a different menu to discover. The forthcoming Christmas Afternoon Tea with The Hallé will bring a festive chapter to the series.
Giving guests a reason to return
For Niall Keating, the ambition at tender has always been to combine exceptional cooking with an approachable, relaxed experience. Afternoon Tea offers another way to enjoy that philosophy, whether guests are visiting for a celebration, catching up with friends or discovering the restaurant for the first time.
Adding live music gives the occasion its own character. Changing the menu with the seasons means there is something fresh to look forward to, too.
This is how experiences help a restaurant become a destination. A memorable visit gives guests something to talk about; a thoughtful programme of events gives them a reason to come back. Someone who first discovers tender through Afternoon Tea may return for dinner, while a regular restaurant guest can experience a familiar room in a different way.
Christmas Afternoon Tea with The Hallé
